DRIVING SUPERVISION 2011 – calling for volunteers

We have a growing list of African & other refugee learner drivers needing volunteer assistance to log their driving practice hours.

These learner drivers (our clients) live in suburbs such as: Waratah, Wallsend, Mayfield, Belmont, Shortland, Jesmond, Islington, New Lambton.

By gaining their drivers licence, our clients will:
* Reduce their reliance on government & other services, volunteers, etc.
* Further assist their integration into the wider community.
* Improve their chances of gaining employment.

Before volunteer assistance can be arranged, we ensure that our clients meet the following criteria:
1.  The client must own a car, which is properly registered & roadworthy (or have regular access to such a car). The volunteer does not use his/her own vehicle, and the client also pays for the petrol.
2.  The car must have either Comprehensive or Third Party Property Insurance. This not only protects the car owner/driver, but also protects the volunteer from any liability in case of incident.
3.  The client must have already completed at least 10 lessons from a professional driving school/instructor.

So, if you wish to assist an African & other refugee learner driver to log driving practice hours, you will need to have the following:
* Full drivers licence (Australian).
* Good driving record.
* Good understanding of the road rules and how to drive safely.
* An hour or so spare per week.
